Go Math - Chapter 10
Domain: Measurement and Data
Represent and interpret data. Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph.
Children will encounter problems that can be solved by interpreting information or data and making decisions based on data. Class discussions should focus on the following things that children with a deep understanding of data can do. • Recognize the titles (what to investigate) and row or column labels (categories) in data displays. • Describe and interpret information given by a picture graph, bar graph, tallies, etc. For each category or value, find the frequency of occurrence or how many. • Understand and use the mathematical language in the problem. • Make sense of the data to determine how it can be used to solve the problem.
